Parish Council
The next Parish Council Meeting will take place on Monday,
18th September at 7.30pm. All welcome. LP
Affordable Housing
The presentation at the Village Hall of the proposed Affordable
Housing Scheme was well attended and the number of you who
wished to register for the dwellings confirmed the need for
housing identified in the Village Plan. However, if you missed
the presentation and wish to view the proposed plans they
are available at the Havebury Housing Association Offices
in Bury St Edmunds. Ring Rob Williams for more information
on 268165.
Lost & Found
A pair of spectacles were found in Sapiston Village Hall parking
area. If they are yours, please ring 01842 763660.
Neighbourhood Watch
Please take extra care with your car at picnic spots and walks.
Lock everything away in the boot and leave nothing valuable
in view. Garden sheds and garages are also being targeted
at the moment so keep them locked when you are not around.
The police have bought some more shed alarms to sell at £8.00
each. Call me if you would like one on 268165. M Williams
Suffolk Fire Service - How to Protect
your Thatched Roof
If you live in a thatched property and may use an open fire
or wood/fuel burning stove for heating this winter and have
concerns about fire safety and prevention of your thatched
property, then free and up to date advice about how to reduce
the chances of a fire is available. There will be a thatched
property fire safety seminar at Ixworth Village Hall on the
18th September at 7.00pm which will provide essential information
about fire prevention and also provide reliable information
about relevant products which are available and would assist
you in reducing the chances of serious fire loss in your thatched
property. Please come along and see us if you have any thatch
fire safety concerns.
Ixworth Surgery Patient's Association
Dr Matthew Lockyer will be hosting a Health Information Evening,
"Sugar & Spice", all about Diabetes, on Thursday
28th September at 7.00pm in Ixworth Village Hall. There will
be free refreshments and everybody is welcome. AT
Over Sixties Club
Our meeting on the 3rd August was a trip to Blooms at Bressingham.
We were extremely unfortunate with the weather as it was wet,
cold and windy. We gathered for tea at 3.30pm in the tearooms
but it was not our day as the tea was rather sparse and disappointing.
Ada also had an accident whilst paying for her purchases,
falling and breaking her glasses, causing cuts to her face.
We all wish her a speedy recovery. There were only 11 members
at our 17th August meeting, plus Molly & Albert's granddaughter.
We had an enjoyable afternoon with the usual games of bingo
and cards followed by tea and cake. I would like to remind
you about the trip along the Orwell on Wednesday 6th September.
Members should meet at 10.30am either at The Fox, Sapiston
Bus Shelter or the Village Hall. Remember to take a packed
lunch if you do not wish to buy lunch at the riverside. Have
a good trip! Our meetings in September are: 6th September
- Orwell Trip; 21st September - Village Hall. KK
Visit by Peggy Cole
The well-known gardener, Peggy Cole, has agreed to come and
talk to the Over Sixties at their meeting in the Village Hall
on Thursday 21st September. If you would like to come along
and meet her, and join us for tea afterwards, please let Marion
Cusworth know by Saturday 16th September on 269492. Everyone
is most welcome.
Good Neighbours Scheme
We are a group of volunteers from Honington and Sapiston who
are willing to help anyone with any task, from advocacy, to
visiting, changing light bulbs, doing odd jobs, moving furniture
or changing a fuse. Our service is free so call us on 07950
930981. Marilyn Williams

Our August meeting was held at the home of Mrs Gill Farrow
who kindly welcomed us to her garden on a lovely warm evening.
Preparations were made for future WI events, followed by refreshments
prepared by the committee and a convivial evening was enjoyed
by all members who were able to attend. Our September meeting
speaker is William Tyler who will be talking about "What's
In A Name?" The roll call is The Name I Would Have Chosen
for Myself and the competition is for an illuminated letter
of the alphabet (any medium). DA

leaving Fakenham Magna Church at 12.45pm and the Fox Inn at
12.50pm. The visit will finish at 3.00pm with light refreshments.

visit in October. Please let Sean know if you would like to

Suffolk Historic Churches Bicycle Ride
2006
Just a reminder to put the date of this year's Bike Ride into
your diary - it is Saturday 9th September. This year is the
25th Anniversary, so it is a bit special. Of the money you
raise by sponsorship, half goes to the local church and half
to the Historic Churches Trust. This organisation has given
us grants towards the maintenance of our church building in
the past, so it is a very worthy cause. You can take part
by cycling or walking between churches or by sitting in the
church to record the walkers or cyclists who visit. Sponsorship
forms are available in the Post Office at the Fox Inn or in
Honington Church (on the font). For further information contact
Claire Smith on 01359 269658. CS
Honington Church Draw
The draw last month took place on the 17th August and first
prize went to Trish Fojut, second prize to Sue Hale and third
prize to Gill Farrow. The next draw will be on the 21st September
at the Over Sixties' Meeting. MC
Church News
On a sunny Sunday afternoon we had a lovely Pet Service outside
Sapiston Church with 40 people and 21 pets attending - our
thanks go to Canon Sally Fogden for officiating for us. The
following morning, which was wet and grey, our Coffee Morning
for the British Red Cross Middle East Crisis Appeal, was a
great success with many people squeezing into Tim and Sally's
home and £355 was raised. Thank you for your hospitality,
Tim and Sally, and to all who came, helped and donated.
Good News - our new stained glass window is due to be fitted
in the middle of September and a service of dedication is
arranged for Sunday 15th October at 9.30am. We do hope you
will join us.
Saturday 9th September is the Churches' Cycle Ride Day and
Sunday 10th September is our Harvest Thanksgiving Service
at Sapiston Church at 6.00pm, when Canon Sally Fogden will
be officiating.

will be on Sunday 8th October at 9.30am and our Harvest Songs
