Ixworth Patients' Association
Practice News The plans to extend the surgery have been granted.
This will provide 2 more treatment rooms amongst other facilities.
Building begins in April and should be up and running by September.
In October work will begin on the new pharmacy/dispensary.
A waiting area will make this a more customer-friendly place.
Over the counter medicines will be available and the pharmacist
will be able to give advice without the need to see a doctor.
Between these 2 building phases the waiting room will be refurbished.
The children's play area will have to be moved and will be
retained but with toys and tables etc. which have passed healthy
and safety standards. It is hoped that the waiting room will
have patient check in machines and also machines for patients
to check their height and weight. The computer system will
also be changed. Government money will pay for this as part
of their national care initiative. This system should be up
and running by June. Eventually, when all systems have been
changed, our records would be available at surgeries and hospitals
all over the country if treatment is needed while away from
home. Our surgery has scored very well in the latest patient
survey. Only 2 areas were under par: waiting times to see
the doctor; and phoning in for appointments. The practice
manager has put in "catch up times" so that waiting
times in surgery were less and this seems to be working. He
is also working on the phone-in system and trying to get a
balance between pre-bookable and bookable on the day appointments.
500 telephone consultation take place each week. A new registrar
- Caroline Chan, has joined the practice for 1 year.
Health Evening This will be on Wednesday 17th May. The topic
is Walking for Health and will start at the surgery at 7.00pm
with a briefing followed by a short walk, then back to the
surgery for conclusion and refreshments. Do come along. AT
Over Sixties Club
Margaret Price celebrated her 80th birthday on the 21st March
and kindly invited the members of the Over Sixties to the
village hall for a birthday meal. About 85 friends and family
sat down to a splendid 3-course lunch followed by cheese,
biscuits, coffee or tea and birthday cake. Our thanks to Margaret
for letting us share in and enjoy her special day. Our meeting
on the 6th April was our usual enjoyable format of social
afternoon followed by a cuppa and cakes. There has been a
slight change of plan for our AGM on the 4th May. The meeting
will commence with lunch at 1.00pm and we look forward to
seeing a good turnout of members for this important meeting.

when we will discuss the resolutions to be voted on at the
WI AGM in Cardiff in June. The roll call for this meeting
is a Fundraising Idea and the competition is for a jar of
lemon curd. DA
