We commenced our meeting with a glass of sherry
to toast 85 years of the WI Federation in West Suffolk.
Following this we had our resolutions to discuss
ready for our delegate Fiona Ridgwell to vote on
at the AGM at the Albert Hall in London. This year
our topics are: to ensure the farmer receives a
fair share of the price of a pint of milk; and the
problem of waste disposal and how we can play our
part in helping to reduce waste in the home and
shops. To conclude our evening at the Village Hall
we had an array of delicious puddings to taste and
enjoy, with recipes available to take home. Our
June meeting will take place on Tuesday 14th June
and our speaker is to be Brian Coley (a Blue Badge
Guide) on "Bury's Ladies of the Town".
We have a competition to bring a posh hat and the
subject of the roll call is to name a street in
Bury St Edmunds. DA

Over Sixties Club
Since 1969 our contribution to the Newsletter has
been written by Ada Sydney who has now been forced
by ill health to retire - we all owe her a big vote
of thanks and wish her continued improving health.
26 of our members enjoyed a superb roast dinner
at The Fox on the 5th May, following which we had
our usual draw with Henry Shaw winning the first
prize of a Breakfast Bonanza donated by a generous
patron of The Fox. On the 12th May members were
invited to Barnham Over Sixties where we were entertained
to a singalong by Patsy Rose which we all enjoyed,
followed by a splendid homemade tea. Our second
meeting of the month was on the 19th May. We have
two meetings in June on the 2nd and 16th at 2.30pm
in the Village Hall. KK

Church News
It is Rural Pastimes month!! Many of you are incredibly
busy with getting it all ready. If anyone has anything
they might like to give for either the main draw
or the tombola, just drop them off at the Rectory
or give me a ring on 269265 and I will collect them
and make sure they get to the right place - thank
you.
The event is always a great but busy day with so
much going on - if you need a bit of quiet drop
in for the Church Service at 11.15 or come and see
the Flower Festival (open Saturday and Sunday).
As we remember 60 years since the ending of World
War II the Flower Festival reflects the theme of
The Coming of Peace. Enjoy the day if you have time
- it's a great day out and does so much to help
our Hospice and our Churches.
Advance notice - next month sees the National Day
for celebrating 60 years since VE and VJ Days -
there will be a special service on Sunday 10th June.
We also want to have a small exhibition of any memorabilia
of the time - either in the Armed Services or on
the home front, so if you have any photos or artefacts
that you might be willing to lend please let either
Gill or me know (we will take great care of it).
Also next month - the Church Fete on the 16th July!!
