Honington
& Sapiston Newsletter, October 2005. 416:
Parish Council
Following our meeting in September, Councillors are looking
at ways to improve the safety of the A1088 crossroads. This
is of paramount importance when parents are dropping off/collecting
children from the school. Please have consideration for others
when using this area at the relevant times. One other matter
concerning our roads is that from October PC Whittaker will
be patrolling the A1088 through Honington with her Speed Radar
Machine after undergoing specialist training. Your have been
warned! Finally, thanks to those who took the time to complete
the Housing Needs Survey - your input is much appreciated.
The Parish Council meets again on Monday 14th November in
the School Hall at 7.30pm. LP
Village Bus Stops and Bins: The village bus stop warden has
registered concern at dog waste being deposited in litter
bins. There are serious health risk implications in this practise,
especially to our children, so please ensure dog waste is
deposited in the Dog Waste Receptacles only. ST
Village Post Office
After a very great deal of soul searching and having reached
the age of 76 years last May, I have decided that it is now
time to retire and have, therefore, given notice to the Post
Office that the Post Office and Shop will close on or about
29th December 2005. (The Post Office will decide which is
a suitable date for them but not later than 29th December).
Therefore, from the 1st October, all greeting cards, wrapping
paper, stationery, medicines and cake decorations will be
sold at half price. Reg Sheppard
Neighbourhood Watch
Lindsey Whittaker's next police surgery will be in Ixworth
Village Hall on Saturday 1st October from 11.am until noon.
Anglian Water Company has been burgled and an ID card, 3 uniforms
and a jacket were stolen. We think these items will be used
in Distraction Burglaries. Be very cautious about anyone saying
they are from Anglian Water - don't let them in and dial 999
if in doubt. Foreign nationals are offering prints for sale
and while some may be genuine others are not and may be wishing
to gain entry to your house to carry out a reconnaissance
for a possible burglary. If in doubt dial 999. If something
strikes you as odd, unusual or suspicious, pass it on to me
straight away on 268165 or dial 999. Marilyn Williams
Honington School
We have welcomed a number of new pupils to school this term
and everybody has settled in well. We are pleased that Miss
Sarah Borrill has joined us to teach Birch Class and Mrs Diver,

Assistants. We are holding a Jumble Sale in School on Saturday
8th October from 10.00am to 12 noon. There will also be a
Raffle and Refreshments. Please come along if you can. If
you have any jumble please bring it to school on Thursday
or Friday, 8th or 9th October. We are holding a Disco for
the children on Friday 14th October. The school will be closed
for half term from 21st to 28th October inclusive. BAB

W.I.
We had a good attendance at our September meeting and were
pleased to welcome a visitor and a new member. Our speaker
was Christine Clark who showed us her skills which she uses
in film and TV make-up. Six members were made up during the
evening and Christine told us all about her career, starting
as a hairdresser with Vidal Sassoon to the present day. At
refreshment time we celebrated Jo Lynch's birthday with a
special cake. Next month on the 11th October, Alan Durand
is coming to show slides and speak to us about American and
Canadian National Parks. The competition is for a flower arrangement
incorporating wood and the Roll Call is the Park or Garden
I Like Best. DA

Over Sixties Club
About 20 of our members lunched at the Troston Bull on the
1st September, enjoying a roast dinner and sweet, followed
as usual by games of bingo and a raffle. On the 10th there
was a visit to Felixstowe in the company of Barnham 060s,
where all our members who were able to make the trip had a
lovely day in the sunshine and a good time at the show Putting
on The Ritz, especially as Syd's son, Bryan, was part of the
troupe performing in the show. Our meeting on the 15th was
the usual mix of good company, games of whist and bingo and
our club raffle. On the 29th of September there is a talk
on Ely Cathedral at the Barnham 060's Club to which we have
been invited, starting at 2.30pm. The meetings in October

The Fox Inn News
We are saddened at the loss of Bill Birch, our A Team Pool

Hospice has now reached over £1,000.

Church News
First of all, a huge thank you to everyone who made our churches
(Sapiston and Honington) look so wonderful for their Harvest
Thanksgiving Services and to everyone who came, made things
or helped in any way with our Harvest Supper - a wonderful
village for getting on with what needs doing. Thank you very
much, it was a really great evening which I know everyone
enjoyed.
We are all saddened by the death of Joyce Kemp - we shall
miss her so much and the Church will feel strange without
her presence Sunday by Sunday - may she rest in peace.
A date for your Diary - the Autumn Fair will be on Saturday
