From Sally Fogden
I hardly know where to begin in thanking you all for the wonderful retirement party which so many worked on to make such an enjoyable evening and for the amazingly generous gifts, cards and flowers. It was all very emotional for me, as I am sure you can imagine, but it has left me feeling so touched and grateful to you all. The years I have been with you have been such a privilege and being part of the community and helping out as needed will, I know, be good as well. God bless you.
A new thing . . . The Parish Plan Group are hoping to carry out a survey of local wildlife. If, on the last Wednesday of every month, you could just look and see what birds there are in your garden, then write it down and let me have a note, that would be wonderful. Perhaps you could keep an eye out for when wildflowers first appear (some are here already and duly noted) and let me know. If, on your walk, you see any unusual bird or animal, then that would be great. My number is 268923 or you can pop the info in the letterbox at Meadow Farm, or with Ian at the Post Office then we can join in the County survey in knowing a bit more about our wildlife. Thank you so much.

Honington & Sapiston Parish Council
At the last Parish Council meeting parishioners raised their concerns about excessive speeding through our villages. These concerns were passed on to PC Whittaker who will be undertaking patrols through the villages from the start of April. Please watch your speed through the villages and not just on the A1088. Suffolk County Council have issued a fact sheet for backyard poultry keepers in relation to the potential hazard of bird flu. If anyone would like a copy please contact the Clerk on 269163.The Borough Council have informed us that the height barriers at their waste recycling sites have now been raised to 2 metres to accommodate 4x4s. The next meetings of the Parish Council will be the AGMs. We are at Sapiston Village Hall on Thursday 11th May at 7.30pm and Honington's AGM will take place on Monday 15th May in Honington School Hall, also at 7.30pm. All are welcome to join us and have your say. LP
The Parish Plan Group continues to work with Lin Kennedy, the Community Development Worker at the RAF Station. Currently the station is becoming a centre for the Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme and young people in our two parishes are encouraged to contact Lin if they are interested in becoming involved. If you know someone aged 14-25 years who would like to complete a Bronze, Silver or Gold Award they can contact Lin on 01359 237321 or Flt Lt Paul McCarthy on 01359 237404 or e-mail: moelhebog@vodafone.net. Lin has also established a youth club at the camp and provides activities for young people from the age of 9. Any parents who would like their children to take part in this club should contact Lin. Fundraising for the World Challenge Expedition to India
My name is Daniel Betham. I am 14 years old, live in Sapiston and attend Thurston Community College. In July 2007 I will be taking part in the World Challenge Expedition to India. The expedition will involve a 2-week trek in the Himalayas followed by voluntary work in a local school. In order to take part I need to raise £3,000 so if anyone has any small odd jobs that I can help with, for a small donation, please give me a call. I am willing to feed small pets or water plats etc whilst you are on holiday. Or perhaps you need help with walking dogs, babysitting or car washing? If you have any other jobs that I can help with, or would like to learn more about the expedition, then please do not hesitate to call me on 269969. DB LP

Over Sixties Club
At our meeting on the 2nd March, 22 members were treated to an excellent fish and chip lunch followed by fruit salad, tea and coffee. Our meeting on the 16th March was the usual mixture of bingo and cards, followed by tea and cakes. There will be a meeting on the 6th April at the Village Hall at 2.30pm but please make a note that there will NOT be a meeting on the 20th April as this has been moved to the 26th April (a Wednesday) when we will be entertaining Barnham Over Sixties to tea and entertainment by Brian Thurlow. We would like to extend an invitation to anyone in the village who is over 60 to join us for tea and entertainment. Please ring Marion on 269492 so that we can arrange our catering. Our AGM will be on 4th May at 2.30pm. KK

W.I.
This month our members have had the opportunity to listen to two very good speakers. Firstly, at the Corn Exchange in Bury St Edmunds, David Battie of Antiques Road Show fame, and secondly at our monthly meeting, Michael Bentinck, who enthralled us with his talk on Wartime Women of Suffolk when he told us many stories, both happy and sad. Next month's meeting will be held at 7.30pm on Tuesday 11th April in the Village Hall. At this meeting the speaker is Pip Wright on Witches of Suffolk. The competition is to write a spell and the roll call is to name a book or film title featuring a witch or wizard. DA
Neighbourhood Watch
Suffolk Police have launched an initiative called "SAFEKEY". By joining SAFEKEY you will enable police officers to contact your key holder if there is an emergency at your property. I will put details in the Village Hall and the Sub Post Office. Having witnessed the distress of a friend who had her purse taken from her bag in Waitrose, I urge ladies to attach a small cat bell to their purses then if someone attempts to steal your purse you will be alerted. The bells are provided free and can be attached at any police station. I hope to have a supply in the near future so phone me on 268165 if you would like one. If you see or hear something suspicious dial 999 but if you wish to remain anonymous call Crime Stoppers on 0800 555 111. Marilyn Williams 268165

We are a RAW Partner and RAW events are planned at The Fox as a participating venue for the BBC's campaign to bring Reading And Writing into the Community. We welcome ideas and suggestions that anybody would like to include at an informal coffee morning/afternoon and perhaps a little workshop and discussion group to improve our skills and generally have an excuse for a get together and natter. Initial ideas are: a poetry and verse session; favourite book or novel session; local history featuring Syd Thurlow's book 'Village Life and Folk Remembered' and other local anecdotes; lending library of books and CD's etc; visit to the Museum at RAF Honington as part of a larger project on the station. This will be a community initiative so I will be contacting local organisations and institutions to participate. Please contact Sean at The Fox Inn if you have any ideas and would like to be involved.
